A designer knows he has achieved perfection
not when there is nothing left to add,
but when there is nothing left to take away.
—Antoine De Saint-Exupery
To be in one's own heart in kindly sympathy with all things;
this is the nature of righteousness
—Confucius
I believe design is the ultimate form of the combination of SIMPLE and SYMPATHY, because good design is not the one with many functions, but the one with less and SIMPLE functions as possible so that it will not confuse users. To find out what is required, SYMPATHY matters. Putting myself into others’ shoes reveals flaws that have never been thought of, and let me feel the same way as users do, which results in careful observation and implementation of the whole design. Therefore, SIMPLE + SYMPATHY = DESIGN.
My Name is Hiroaki Yamane. I’m a university student majoring in business,
currently working as a web developer for greenz.jp as an internship.
I’ve been lived in Kyoto for 18 years. Actually I dropped out of the technical college when I was 17. After that, for a whole year, I studied for the entrance exam of the university.
Then I passed it and came to Tokyo.
In 2009, I worked as a volunteer for TEDxTokyo 2009.
The experience made me realize the power of community that I’ve never known.
Also I translate some of the TEDTalks as well.
I used to love to watch design, but now I love to design. It changes my way of thinking, perspective, and even my way of living from the perception of the color of nature to the usability of a tiny switch button at kitchen in my room.
Here, I’ll share my thoughts and what I learned from others.
Thank you for visiting.
